STEAM Scholars Program

At Cleveland State University (CSU), the STEAM Scholars Program (formerly the McNair Scholars Program) has been a model for supporting first-generation and minoritized students. We prepare these students for graduate school and have a proven record of equitable outcomes. Compared to their peers, our students:

  • are more likely to graduate
  • are more likely to attend graduate school
  • have higher GPAs
  • experience equitable outcomes

We are well-positioned to build upon our successful programming as the STEAM Scholars Program by quadrupling our reach, thereby helping a significantly larger share of CSU students succeed.

Your support helps us increase the number of CSU students from diverse backgrounds engaging in research projects and experiencing equitable outcomes. For instance, alumni Dr. Na'Tasha Evans, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at Kent State University, and Dr. Dominique M. Rose, Ph.D., is a Research Scientist at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Other program alumni are following in their footsteps! Whitney, Renato, Alexis, Maria, Khadeja, and Igor are working on their Ph.D. degrees in Social Work, Computer Engineering, Oceanography, Neuroscience, Psychology, and Chemistry, respectively. Many Program alumni have earned Master's degrees too. Our Alumni are making an impact on their fields and in their communities.

An estimated 80% of CSU students remain in the region after graduation. Thus, your support of this Program can have a considerable and positive impact on our community by graduating diverse professionals needed in Northeast Ohio.

Thank you for supporting first-generation students, students from minoritized backgrounds, and low-income students, and helping to make the goal of a more diverse professional workforce in Northeast Ohio a reality!
